Championship Western Band Association Competition Details:
We went to state championships with the attitude that we had a shot at being number one. We all knew how hard each and everyone one of us had worked through the season. This was it, this was the time we all knew we had worked for. We knew we had to get past Valley Christian and Beyer to win the championship. Our show was now really good and with a group of high school students, you couldn't ask for much more. We went and warmed up and then went out and performed. Your scores are posted soon after you perform and we saw we had beat Valley Christian by an easy 2 points. We were ecstatic and knew that Beyer still had to go on. We watched Beyer perform and we thought they were good but not good enough. We were slightly wrong because they beat us in the preliminaries. We figured out that they were cleaner but by far our show was more exciting. As we went back and prepared after a turkey dinner for finals, our coaches were trying hard to find out what had to be done to get us just a few more points. We then went back for a very slow warm-up. We went on to the finals field and played our show. This performance was by the far the best performance we had all year. We left the field with the attitude that we had just won sweepstakes and taken the top for the first time in Aliso History. We were sad to see after a short time that we failed to beat Beyer by a shy 2 points. This was ok because even though we did not get sweepstakes we took 1st in the states. This was the 2nd time in Aliso History to do this and the 1st time for every member of our band. It brought tears of joy and smiles to the bands faces and we were satisfied because to us we had won. We deserved everything we got if not more and we were all Champions!!!
